In addition to the traditional hospital type nursing jobs, there are other non-traditional positions available for nurses. These positions still involve patient care, but from a different perspective.

Travel or agency nursing. These types of nurses are not employed directly be one healthcare facility. Instead, they sign up with an agency and are given assigned jobs are different locations.

Case management nurses. These types of nurses assist in case management processes for patients, helping to meet their healthcare needs based on the options that work best on a patient by patient basis.

Forensic nurses. These types of nurses help to acquire evidence after crimes have been committed as well as provide medical care to victims.

Research nurses. These types of nurses help to conduct scientific studies related to improving patient care.

Legal nurses. These types of nurses assist lawyers in reviewing medical documents for medicine related cases such as malpractice or negligence.

Midwives. Midwives are types of nurses that assist in maternal care and birthing. Midwives are actually allowed to deliver babies alone unless the pregnancy is complicated.

Nurse Practitioners. Nurse practitioners are types of nurses that have earned a masters degree and undergone advanced training. Nurse practitioners are given a limited scope of medications that they can prescribe.
